Discrimination against women must be eliminated to sustain happiness: Dr Amal Ali

Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights, Dr Amal Ali, has said that discrimination against women must be eliminated in order to sustain harmony and happiness in the society.

Speaking at the Annual Prize Day function of Aminiya School last night, Dr Amal Ali stressed the importance of providing equal education opportunities to girls and boys.

She said that she hoped to see a day when fifty percent of the cabinet of the Maldives is made up of women; and highlighting that women are capable of standing on their own feet, she said that she enjoys a great sense of happiness by being independent.

Prizes were given out to 308 students at last night’s function. The best all-round student prize was won by Deputy Games Captain of Aminiya School, Thamaanath Ayyoob, who in last year’s O’level Exam, achieved world’s first place in Business Studies and world’s second place in Travel and Tourism.

In addition to Thamaanath Ayyoob, eight students of Aminiya School were included in the World Top Ten in the O’level exam last year.
