The Jumhooree Party (JP) has said that since the first round of voting of the presidential election, presidential candidate of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has made three attempts to meet presidential candidate of JP Gasim Ibrahim.
“MDP presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed has, so far, visited Honourable Gasim Ibrahim’s residence M. Maafannu Villa on three occasions. The first two times, Honourable Gasim Ibrahim was not at home,” reads the statement published by JP today.
JP said that yesterday, Gasim happened to be at home when Nasheed visited him, but the discussions between the two politicians did not include forming a JP-MDP coalition, or withdrawing the case filed to Supreme Court by JP.
JP highlighted that Gasim’s meeting with Nasheed was not unusual in any sense, since Gasim has recently met with several politicians.
In this regard, JP said that over the past few days, Gasim has met with former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom and President Dr Mohamed Waheed, and spoken on the phone several times with presidential candidate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdulla Yameen.
JP also asserted that following the ruling by the Supreme Court on the election case filed by JP, Gasim Ibrahim and Mohamed Nasheed would be the two candidates who would compete in the second round of the presidential election.
JP said that the party is not yet considering entering into a coalition with any party.
Meanwhile, officials of PPM have said that they are confident that JP would join them for the second round of the presidential election.
