The auditor general has said in the Ministry of Islamic Affairs Audit Report of 2011, published yesterday, that adequate action had not been taken in relation to the recommendations made in the Ministry of Islamic Affairs Audit Report of 2010, regarding the expenditures on the construction and renovation of mosques.
In this regard, the report highlighted that the ministry had failed to collect MVR 1 million issued as advance payment for the construction of mosques between 2007 and 2010, as well as MVR 3 million issued as advance payment for the construction of Furqan Mosque.
According to the report, the ministry had not monitored mosque construction projects undertaken by the ministry between 2007 and 2008, and also halted the construction of a mosque in Haa Alifu Uligamu in 2008 after spending a large sum of money on the project.
The auditor general noted that adequate action had not been taken to address these issues, in spite of the recommendations provided in this regard in the Ministry of Islamic Affairs Audit Report of 2010.
