Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain has ordered the Elections Commission (EC) to present the voters’ list used in the September 7th presidential election, along with the list of voters who re-registered for the election, to the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice issued the order today during the hearing of Jumhoory Party’s Supreme Court case, asking the court to annul the results. of the first round of polls.
In answer to the order, lawyer representing EC Husnu Al Suood stated they will not be able to obey the High Court’s ruling ordering EC to allow JP to view the voters’ list, if they were to present the list to the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice stated that the Commission shall present the voters’ list to the Supreme Court in a manner that does not get in the way of carrying out the High Court order.
However, JP’s lawyer, the party’s vice presidential candidate Dr Hassan Saeed then told the court that JP will shall not object to being denied the opportunity to view the voters' list, as per the High Court order.
Lawyer for the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ahmed Zaneen Adam also agreed that they no longer want to view the voters’ list.
