Universal Enterprises to operate Kandholhudhoo as a resort

Universal Enterprises Private Limited has decided to establish a five-star resort in Alifu Alifu Kandholhudhoo.

Universal Enterprises, one of the largest resort operators in the Maldives, will inaugurate the new resort ‘Kandholhu Island’ in January 2014. The arrival of the first tourist to the island has been scheduled for 11 January 2014.

The $12 million project includes the construction of thirty rooms in five different categories on the island, which until now, has been used as a picnic island.

The resort will also have four restaurants, a bar, a four-room spa, a fitness room; and will offer diving, water sports and excursions.

The island is accessible on seaplane from Male’ within 20 minutes.

A tourism news website said that the five-star resort would be one with rich vegetation, beautiful beaches, clear waters and colourful corals.

Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hassan Zameel, said today that Universal Enterprises has proposed to operate Kandholhu Island, previously used as a picnic island, as a resort. He said that the company has already made the necessary payment to the government, to transform the island into a resort.
