The Auditor General’s Office has advised to withhold the salary of former president of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, following his controversial dismissal from CSC membership by the parliament.
This was confirmed to Sun Online this morning by Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim.
“We were requested for advice by CSC. So we advised that the best thing to do, given that this is a complicated issue, would be to withhold the salary until the issue is settled. He can be reimbursed later if it is decided that he should have been paid a salary,” said Niyaz.
Niyaz said that the State has acted in this manner in relation to similar matters in the past.
CSC has not yet replied when asked by Sun Online whether Fahmy’s salary has been withheld as advised by the Auditor General.
Sun has come to know that Fahmy’s access code to enter the office has also been cancelled.
Fahmy was dismissed following allegations of sexual harassment of a female employee of the commission.
Fahmy however resumed work following a Supreme Court ruling in this regard, and after being notified by the President’s Office.
Dr Mohamed Latheef, who was recently appointed by the parliament as president of CSC, has sent a letter to the president, asking the president to settle the issue related to Fahmy.
Meanwhile, Fathimath Reenee Abdul Sattar has been appointed as a member of CSC to replace Fahmy.
Reenee has not started attending work or taken the oath as a member of CSC.
