President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has this morning inaugurated the Thaa Thimarafushi domestic airport.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Waheed said that the airport will soon receive apron lights which will enable the airport to receive flights at night, and that the airport's terminal will soon be handed over for completion.
Highlighting his government’s achievements, the President noted that they have completed 1000 housing units within the past one and half years, established two airports, initiated 44 sewerage system projects, in addition to 52 harbour construction and renovation projects.
Today’s ceremony also saw the handing over of the management of the airport to Island Aviation Services.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Transport and Communication said that the Thimarafushi airport terminal is designed with space for expansion and that his ministry will soon commission Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to complete the terminal. Once completed, it will be the most modern domestic terminals in the country, he said.
Thaa Thimarafushi airport inauguration ceremony was held with much celebration and was participated by a number of government officials. The airport is predicted to facilitate a further development opportunities for the region.
