First test flight to Thimarafushi Airport to be conducted on Sunday

Regional Airports has said that the first test flight to Thimarafushi Airport will be conducted on Sunday.

Director General of Regional Airports Saamee Ageel said that a team from Civil Aviation Authority will visit the island on Saturday, to inspect the airport.

“Our aim is to open the airport on Saturday. Most of the work has been completed,” said Saamee.

He said that the temporary terminal has been completed, and the major work related to the apron and fences have also been completed.

“The equipment required by the airport will be sent today, and instalment will begin shortly as well,” he said.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) commenced the Thimarafushi Airport development project early this year, after the project was handed over by the Maldives Airport Company.
