Two parties have expressed interest for the project to develop an airport in Kudahuvadhoo, following an announcement in this regard by the Ministry of Tourism.
Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb told Sun today that an island will be leased for resort development to the group that develops the Kudahuvadhoo Airport.
He said that the Expression of Interest (EOI) submitted by the two companies before the deadline passed on Sunday, are under assessment.
“They will be given the opportunity to submit proposals after the EOIs are assessed. We are trying to start this project before the end of this year,” he said.
Adheeb did not disclose the names of the two companies that submitted EOIs.
The project to develop an airport in Kudahuvadhoo was handed over to Airport Investment Company by the government in 2007.
Back then, the company could not secure an investor for the project, and the government also made an announcement seeking a company to undertake this project in 2009.
