A decision will be made on Fahmy issue within two, three days: President

President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that a decision will be made within two or three days regarding President of Civil Service Commission (CSC) Mohamed Fahmy Hassan continuing to attend work after he was dismissed by the parliament.

The president made this remark in response to a question posed by a reporter in relation to the president’s comments at the Independence Day function last night.

“I am consulting with my lawyers and the attorney general about that [Fahmy’s post as president of CSC]. It’s a difficult situation; we need legal advice and need to discuss the issue. I will make a decision after that,” said President Waheed while speaking to reporters prior to his departure on a campaign tour of the Forward With The Nation coalition.

Dr Mohamed Latheef, who has been appointed by the parliament to replace Fahmy as the president of CSC, has sent a letter to President Waheed requesting him to settle the issue related to Fahmy.

Dr Latheef said that Fahmy continuing to officially attend the work of the commission after his dismissal results in serious challenges.

Speaking at last night’s function, President Waheed said that it has become common practice to take advantage of the country’s ambiguous laws.

“We are seeing examples of this in various areas of the state. A leader who does not have the confidence of the parliament, seems to want to continue to order the largest group of state employees,” he said.
