President of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that the meaning of “assurance” in the party’s presidential campaign slogan “Aim Assured” has increased two-folds since Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) joined PPM in coalition.
Addressing his supporters after inaugurating the first PPM-MDA campaign post near PPM headquarters in Boduthakurufaanu Magu last night, Maummon said that coalition has brought new hope to the country.
“We are trying to win this year’s presidential election. I believe that MDA’s services in this regard are most valuable, most important. It will be a very beneficial service. Therefore, I believe that MDA’s participationand the increase in pace of our efforts will bring new hope to the nation,” Maumoon said.
The former president said that the coalition has to double its campaign efforts, or risk losing the election.
“We have to increase our work. We must work without fatigue, work with greater conviction and confidence for the next 17 days or we will not win,” Maumoon said. “We have to believe this, because our rivals are also hard at work. They’re spending a lot of money and making other such efforts, and we have to continue what we are doing with sincerity, vigor and energy.”
Maumoon promised to continue his campaign travels and asked his supporters to vote for Abdulla Yameen and his running mate Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.
He also expressed delight in the recent increase in young supporters for PPM.
“We saw this during our very successful event last night. A large number of young people has joined PPM, and a lot more youngsters are joining. I am convinced that more and more young people will join in the future,” Maumoon said, referring to a party event on the 19th of August.
“The future of the Maldives is in the hands of the young people and this large number of youngsters joining PPM, it is a very good omen,” he said.
The campaign post inauguration ceremony last night was participated the leadership from both parties, council members, and a large number of supporters from both PPM and MDA.
