Coalition partners Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) have decided to hold a mass rally in Male’ on the 30th of August.
PPM’s Deputy Leader Abdul Raheem told the media today that both parties will hold a lead-up event at Artificial Beach tonight, the first of campaign event since forming the coalition.
“PPM and MDA will jointly hold a big event on the 30th. The first such event by the two parties will also be held tonight, as preparation for the big event,” Abdul Raheem said.
The announcement of a mass rally by PPM and MDA has received criticism from Jumhoory Party, who recently held a rally on the east of the capital and attracted a large crowd. Referring to JP rally, Abdul Raheem said that JP is new hosting such large gatherings and so, are inclined to pass peculiar comments.
Abdul Raheem said that PPM and the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) are the only two political parties in the country that are capable of hosting such a large event in the capital, without asking people from the islands to travel to Male' to in attempts to demonstrate their numbers.
