The Supreme Court has said that the efforts to appoint a member to the Civil Service Commission (CSC), after the parliament declared that President of CSC Mohamed Fahmy Hassan had lost his CSC seat and elected Reenee Abdul Sattar to replace him, was a violation of the Supreme Court ruling issued earlier in relation to this matter.
The Supreme Court said in a statement today that the decision by the parliament to dismiss Fahmy Hassan from the post of member of CSC had been declared void by the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court said that the Chief Justice was requested by some judges to hold an emergency meeting of the judges following the efforts to appoint a member to the CSC against the guidelines mentioned in the Supreme Court ruling, but this request was rejected by the Chief Justice.
The Chief Justice issued a statement yesterday, saying that the Supreme Court ruling whereby it ordered to stop the appointment of Reenee Abdul Sattar as a member of CSC yesterday, was issued without the knowledge of three out of the seven judges of the Supreme Court.
The judges who were not informed of yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling were Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain, Judge Abdullah Areef and Judge Ahmed Mu’uthasim.
The judges who approved yesterday’s ruling were Judge Dr Ahmed Abdullah Didi, Judge Abdullah Saeed, Judge Ali Hameed Mohamed and Judge Adam Mohamed Abdullah.
