Vice President of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) Ali Mauroof has said that MDA will work with the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in the local council election as well as the parliamentary election.
Speaking at a press conference held by the PPM coalition, Mauroof said that MDA entered into a coalition with PPM with the purpose of working together in the three elections.
He said that the focus at the moment is to win the presidential election, and that he is 99 percent confident that they will win the presidential election.
Mauroof said that MDA competed with, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), allegedly the strongest political party in the Maldives, and won the Noonu Kendhikulhudhoo council by-election by a landslide.
He said that Leader of MDA Ahmed Siyam Mohamed is a successful politician who has great support in Dhaalu atoll, which he represents the parliament.
“Our leader honourable Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has a successful political career. If you look at his term as MP for Dhaalu atoll, you will see the level of support he has in Dhaalu atoll. He has been successful in everything he set out to do as a politician. Shortly after we commenced efforts to create a political party, we were able to obtain 3,000 members and register our party. We also reached the mark of 10,000 members within a short time,” he said.
Today’s press conference was also attended by Deputy Leader of MDA Ahmed Amir and Vice President of PPM Abdullah Raheem Abdullah.
