Parliament to appoint member to JSC on Tuesday

The issue of appointing a member to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has been put on the agenda of the parliament sitting on Tuesday, 20 August.

The JSC seat held by a parliament member became vacant when Maamigili MP Gasim Ibrahim decided to contest in the presidential election in September.

According to the JSC Act, the seat of a JSC member will become vacant if he decides to contest for a political position elected under the Constitution or a Law.

Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Shahid said that JSC’s seat held by a parliament member had become vacant, and that the issue of appointing a new member to this post has been put on the agenda of the sitting on 20 August.
