Maldives has achieved remarkable results in reaching millennium goals: Shakeela

Minister of Environment and Energy Dr Mariyam Shakeela has said that compared to other countries in the region, the Maldives has realised remarkable results in achieving the millennium goals.

While speaking at a ceremony held to inaugurate a workshop held in preparation for the third conference on sustainable development for small island nations, which will be held next year, Shakeela said that Maldives must sustain these achievements towards reaching the millennium goals.

She said that the millennium goals are to be achieved by 2015, and after that, the countries must work towards achieving the sustainable development goals, which will be determined in about two years.

She stressed the importance of Maldives’ participation and contribution of opinions in the determination of the sustainable development goals, and that efforts are ongoing to ensure this.

Today’s workshop was attended by representatives from relevant authorities and the UN agencies in Maldives.
