Forward with the Nation coalition has said that President Dr Mohamed Waheed will receive 42 percent of the votes in the first round of the presidential election, and that his closest rival will be the presidential candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), who will receive 32 percent.
Spokesperson Abdul Rasheed Nafiz said at a press conference held at Raaveriya Restaurant today that the Waheed’s coalition will win the first round of the presidential election.
“Based on our latest calculations, we will get a majority of about 42 or 43 percent. Our closest competitor is MDP. There’s a difference of about ten percentage points between us and MDP,” he said.
Nafiz said that the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) will come third while Jumhooree Party (JP) will come fourth.
He said that Forward with the Nation coalition currently is the coalition with the most support.
Referring to the claims that not many people show support for President Waheed, Nafiz said that this is President Waheed’s campaign style and that he has the support of ‘the silent majority’.
