Health Ministry orders removal of tobacco advertisements

The Ministry of Health has again ordered all shops and teashops in Malé and other islands of the country to remove any advertisements of tobacco products from display.

In an announcement publicized by the Ministry said that it had noticed the presence of tobacco advertisements in some cafés, restaurants, shops and other such places.

Such advertisements of various brands of tobacco products have been found, according to the announcement, in displays, ash trays, nut trays, tissue holders, bill holders, and so forth.

Advertisement of any tobacco products in any form in the Maldives is a criminal offence, and the Ministry’s announcement highlighted the point, and reminded all concerned parties to follow the law.
