President says would not influence Auditor General and ACC

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has requested the Auditor General and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of the Maldives to take all necessary measures against any individuals who had committed acts of corruption.

The President also said that his Administration would not influence or attempt to do so in any manner the operations of these two independent statutory bodies.

The President’s request and assurance came today, in a meeting with Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim, and President of ACC Hassan Luthufy.

In today’s meeting, held at the President’s Office, Auditor General and President of ACC informed the president of the difficulties that each of the two bodies they represented had faced in discharging their legal functions and duties. Auditor General, thus, specified that some authorities do not take the steps prescribed by him in his Annual Reports.

The President responded by assuring the Auditor General and President of ACC that all the Ministries and Departments of the Government would, in the future, extend all cooperation with the two bodies.
