Robbers break into Immigration, steal over half million rufiyaa

Police have started investigating a robbery of more than MVR 500,000 from a safe inside the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

Police said that the robbery was reported around 9:00 a.m. this morning, but said that they are yet unsure of the time the robbery was committed.

No arrests have yet been made in connection to the robbery, but are trying to track down the suspects, police said.

Police revealed that the robbery was committed by breaking into the Department of Immigration and Emigration though climbing over a wall over into a space between Atoll Canteen and Ghazee Building where the department is located, and by digging the ground and making their way into the Department.

Department of Immigration and Emigration has refused to comment on the matter.

The exact amount of money stolen from the safe is yet unclear.
