No hope of appointing Home Minister before presidential elections: President

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that he does not think that he will be able to appoint a Minister of Home Affairs before the September presidential elections.

In reply to a question by Sun yesterday, the President said that he has delayed appointing a minister to the vacancy due to the lack of a capable candidate. He said that he does not hope appoint a Home Minister, who is also in-charge of the Maldives Police Service, before the crucial September presidential elections.

Home Minister post has been vacant since Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed left the appointment to become the running mate of Abdulla Yameen, the presidential candidate for the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Ahmed Shafeeu has since been temporarily in-charge of the ministry. President said Ahmed Shafeeu is more than capable of running the ministry.
