A man reported missing in Raa Hulhudhuffaaru has been found dead in the sea.
Hulhudhuffaaru Council President Mohamed Zubair has identified the man to Sun as a local from the island, one 40 year old Ahmed Hameed, Omaari house.
Zubair said was found dead around 8:25 a.m. today, through search efforts conducted by island locals that began after Ahmed Hameed was reported missing by his family.
The councilor said that they suspect him to have died after hitting a large breakwater boulder while swimming in the harbour area.
He said that Ahmed Hameed was working on setting up a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) flat near the harbour around 9:00 p.m. last night and that he had told his colleagues around 1:00 a.m. that he will take a swim in the sea before heading home.
Zubair said that Ahmed Hameed had a bad head injury, and was still bleeding when he was discovered.
Ahmed Hameed is reported to work as a truck driver in the industrial island of Lhaviyani Felivaru.
Police said that they are investigating Ahmed Hameed’s death.
