Agreements have been signed today for the construction of harbours in Dhaalu Maaenboodhoo and Kaafu Gulhi.
The MVR 42 million project for the construction of a 800-ft long, 220-ft wide harbour in Maaenboodhoo, to be completed within 11 months, was awarded to SAS-e / Senok Joint Venture. The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the Housing Ministry today. The project is scheduled to commence on 6 October 2013.
The MVR 23.5 million project for the construction of a harbour in Gulhi, to be completed within 6 months, was awarded to MT Hojgaard. The project is scheduled to commence on 15 September once the ongoing EIA works is completed.
The harbour construction projects in these two islands will be funded by the government, said Housing Ministry.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Housing Minister Mohamed Muizzu said that in the future, the ministry will also develop the roads connected to the harbours, to facilitate smoother loading and unloading of goods.
He said that delayed projects such as the construction of harbours in Maavah, Thaa Vilufushi, and Haa Dhaalu Hirimaradhoo will also commence after Eid.
The ceremony held to sign the agreements was also attended by Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Amir.
