Mustafa says will win back his seat

Mohamed Mustafa, prominent leader of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said, hours after he lost his seat in the People’s Majlis due to a decision of the Supreme Court of the Maldives, that he has no doubt that he could win back his lost seat.

In a press meeting held at the Victory Square, where MDP is currently staging a mass rally against the Government, Mustafa told reporters that he would abide by the decision of the Court, and that he would re-run for the seat in the by-election.

Mustafa also said that people from his constituency had already requested him to re-run in the by-election, and that he “could not think of anybody else who can win the by-election”.

Imtiaz Fahmy, Spokesperson of MDP, said that when the Elections Commission announces by-election for the now-vacant Thimarafushi Seat in parliament, the Party would decide who would get its ticket.

Imtiaz too said that he was sure that that person would be Mustafa, and that he would easily win the seat.
