Vilingili tsunami shelters burn down

The temporary tsunami shelters in Gaafu Alifu Vilingili have burned to the ground in a fire incident tonight.

An eyewitness told Sun Online that the incident, which took place at around 22:15, left the temporary shelters located near the hospital on the eastern side of the island burned beyond use.

No one was hurt in the incident.

He said that a mother and child, who is a student of grade 7 of Gaafu Alifu Atoll Education Centre, were living in the shelter, and the fire left all their belongings including the student’s books completely destroyed.

A police media official said that the incident is under investigation.
