All work at the Local Government Authority (LGA) has come to a halt, after the Civil Court ordered today to temporarily halt all efforts related to the implementation of the decision to appoint Minister of Education Dr Asim Ahmed as the president of LGA.
This injunction by the Civil Court came in relation to a case filed by Vice President of LGA Sujau Hussain, requesting the court to declare void the decisions made during the meeting held to appoint Dr Asim as the president of LGA.
Meetings held by the LGA are chaired by its president, which means that following this order by the Civil Court, Dr Asim cannot act as chairman at meetings of LGA until the court makes a further decision on this case.
A government official said that since LGA’s work had come to a halt following this injunction, they had decided to appeal this Civil Court order in High Court.
