Elections Commission has said that they would continue their work tonight, on determining the validity of the signatures submitted by President Dr Mohamed Waheed along with his candidacy form for the upcoming presidential election.
President of Elections Commission Fuad Thaufeeg told Sun Online today that President Waheed has submitted signatures of more than 2,000 people along with his candidacy form, and that the commission would check if they contain 1,500 valid signatures.
He said that the work will continue tonight, and a decision regarding the validity of President Waheed’s candidacy would be made tomorrow.
In addition to President Waheed, Presidential Candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), former President Mohamed Nasheed has also filed his candidacy documents to the Elections Commission. Nasheed’s candidacy has also been accepted by the commission.
Elections Commission said earlier that they would decide on the validity of the candidacies within 48 hours of the documents being submitted.
