Man falls from palm tree in Fuvahmulah, injures spine

A man has fallen from a coconut palm tree in Fuvahmulah, causing injuries to his spine.

The man injured has been identified as 43 year old Abdulla Ahmed, Raifusge, Gnaviyani Fuvahmulah.

He has now been flown to Male’ and taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment.

Manager at the Fuvahmulah Hospital Mohamed Ismail told Sun that the incident occurred around 9:45 this morning and that the person arrived at the Fuvahmulah Hospital within 15 minutes of the incident. Mohamed Ismail also confirmed that the patient has been flown to Male’ for further treatment.

Along with the spine injury, the victim also had two broken ribs and lost all sensation from waist down, said the Fuvahmulah Hospital.

The hospital also said that he would have to go through a major surgery.
