Court cancels hearing for Afrasheem murder suspect Ali Shaan

Criminal Court has postponed today's hearing for Ali Shaan, one of the primary suspects on trial for the murder of parliamentarian and religious scholar Dr. Afrasheem Ali.

Media Official for Criminal Court Ahmed Mohamed Manik said that the trial, scheduled for today, was cancelled on the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

During his previous hearing on May 5th, Ali Shaan denied all murder charges and asked for the opportunity to appoint legal representation.

The court has also allowed the prosecution to present evidence against the defendant.

Shaan is being charged with murder of Dr. Afrasheem Ali, and is accused of going to the parliamentarian’s residence, H. Funvilu, accompanied by his accomplice Hussain Humaam, and had then killed Dr. Afrasheem Ali using a sharp object on the night of 1 October between 11:30 pm and 2:00 am.
