A Bangladeshi news paper reports that cargo ships will be operated very soon between Bangladeshi port city Chittagong and Addu city in the south Maldives.
Daily star, Bangladeshi news paper reported that visiting Maldivian minister of state for home affairs cum chairman of Addu Ports Limited, Hon. Abdulla Shahid has expressed the interest of operating cargo ships between Chittagong and Addu city.
According to the paper, Hon. Shahid said that he hopes to commence the operation in few weeks time, in the meeting held in Chittagong on Thursday with the officials of Bangladeshi National Chamber of Commerce.
“Most of the food items imported to the Maldives now are from India and Thailand. Bangladesh is also a country that can provide these items to the Maldives.” Shahid said according to Daily star. According to the paper Hon. Shahid asked the Bangladeshi businessmen to invest in Maldivian tourism industry, construction industry and energy sector.
The paper also reported that according to Hon. Shahid the Maldivian government is keen to start direct flights between Bangladesh and the Maldives in public private partnership basis.
