Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually grabbing minor

Addu City Hulhumeedhoo Magistrate Court has sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for sexually grabbing an under aged girl.

The sentence was passed upon Ahmed Humaid, 21, Beach House, Hulhudhoo, Addu City, on the 27th last month.

Charges against Humaid accused him of grabbing the breasts of a young girl who was walking down a street, accompanied by another girl around 1:15 p.m. in the afternoon of 7th May 2012.

The Prosecutor General stated that during the investigation, the victim and the girl accompanying her had both confessed to the assault.

Humaid was convicted on confessing to the crime during investigation, along with evidence from witnesses, under the Atricles (a) and (c) of the Child Sex Offenders (Special Provisions) Act.

The court stated that although Humaid had denied his charges in court, eyewitness accounts prove that Ahmed Humaid had committed a sexual act towards the girl.

Police forwarded the case for prosecution in January this year.
