Government has decided to appoint former Attorney General Aishath Bisam as the Minister of Home Affairs and the former Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education Aamal Ali as the Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights.
A senior government official told Sun that Aishath Bisam will take her oath of office as the Minister of Home Affairs at a ceremony in the President’s Office this afternoon.
President Waheed removed Bisam as the Attorney General after she failed to pass the vote of consent by the parliament.
The position of Minister of Home Affairs has been vacant for more than a month and the ministry was temporarily run by the Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Ahmed Shafeeu.
The position of Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights became vacant in the same round of vote for consent, when the current Attorney General Aishath Azima Shakoor was rejected by the parliament.
