Some employees of Thinadhoo Court stop working, hold protest

Two magistrates and some employees of Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo have stopped working and held a protest to voice discontent regarding some issues of the court.

An official of Thinadhoo Court said that two out of the three magistrates of the court and two other employees stopped working today and held the protest at the court grounds.

The magistrates who participated in the protest are Mohamed Zahir Hassan and Ibrahim Rasheed.

The official said that the protesters did not work from 13:30 until the end of official working hours today.

The protesters complained that the court had not established a safe work environment, and called to solve this issue.

The official said that problems first arose due to opinion differences between the chief magistrate and the other two magistrates of the court.

The chief magistrate has however denied this claim.

The official said that the chief magistrate makes changes to employment notices sent by the Department of Judicial Administration before they are signed by employees, which is not part of the authorities given to chief magistrates.

He said that Chief Judicial Administrator Ibrahim Ahmed Manik has been requested today to solve the problem of the lack of a proper work environment at the court.
