Case related to Gaumee Itthihad Party membership forms filed to police

The Elections Commission has filed a case to the police regarding the inclusion of names of deceased persons on the membership forms submitted by Gaumee Itthihad Party (GIP).

This has been confirmed by the police.

A letter sent to Commissioner of Police Abdullah Riyaz by the Elections Commission noted names of eleven people and their addresses, and said that those are names of people who are dead. The commission requested the police to investigate this matter as a crime may have been committed thorough the submission of these forms.

The commission also sent the original forms to the police.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission said earlier that several membership forms of GIP had been submitted to the Elections Commission carrying signatures of people who had not been informed of forms being submitted in their name.
