Hithadhoo Magistrate Court has issued an order to summon Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sadiq to the court.
An official from Hithadhoo Magistrate Court told Sun that Abdulla Sadiq has been handed over an order to be present at the court at 10:00 am on Tuesday.
The official said that Mayor Abdulla Sadiq is being sought by the court in relation to a case where the City Council has neglected to reply to requests to information relating to a property case that is being contested in the court.
He said that the councils inability to cooperate is hindering the court process. They have made numerous requests to council to provide the documents, he said.
“Some letters are about a year old. We have not received a reply for a single one. We’ve asked the Addu City Council repeatedly to reply to letters, but to no result,” the official said.
Mayor Abdulla Sadiq however said that he has not received the court summons. He agreed that he had received requests by certain magistrates to accelerate the reply to certain letters and said that he had obliged to those requests.
