MDP to decide on participating in tomorrow's consent vote

Parliamentary group of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has scheduled a meeting for tonight to decide on whether to participate on the vote of consent for Minister of Transport and Communication Ameen Ibrahim, Attorney General Aishath Bisam and Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights Aishath Azima Shakoor, to be asked for in parliament tomorrow.

The MDP parliamentary group walked out of parliament during the consent vote for the first cabinet proposed by President Waheed last year.

MDP Parliamentary group leader MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih told Sun today that MDP will not give consent for any member of Dr. Waheed’s cabinet. His parliamentary group will not vote in favour of any of the three minister who’ll face the vote tomorrow, he said.

Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that tonight’s meeting will mainly decide whether they will participate in the vote at all.

The vote of consent will be asked after the floor receives the report by Parliament Committee on Oversight of the Government, which recommends to give consent to Minister of Transport and Communication Ameen Ibrahim and to reject Attorney General Aishath Bisam and Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights Aishath Azima Shakoor.

MDP now holds a total strength of 33 MPs in parliament.
