Confident of PPM

President Dr Mohamed Waheed has expressed confidence that the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) would cooperate with granting consent for Minister of Transport and Communication Ameen Ibrahim, Attorney General Aishath Bisam and Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights Aishath Azima Shakoor.

President Waheed said this while speaking to reporters after a ceremony held at Dhivehi Malaafaiy restaurant tonight to inaugurate a football tournament organised by the Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo Council.

“I will ask the parties included in the government to give their support in this matter,” he said.

Presidential Candidate of the ‘Forward with the Nation’ coalition, President Waheed referred to the relations between PPM and the government and said that with the presidential election imminent, people will say different things; however, it would be best to not take those things too seriously.

“They [members of PPM] are still included in the cabinet and still hold several senior government posts. People will say things when preparing for a presidential election. The best thing would be to not take those things too seriously. I think the coalition is doing fine,” he said.

The motion for the parliament to grant consent for Minister of Transport and Communication Ameen Ibrahim, Attorney General Aishath Bisam and Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights Aishath Azima Shakoor has been put on the agenda of the parliament session on 1 July.

The Parliament Committee on Oversight of the Government has decided to reject Attorney General Aishath Bisam and Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights Aishath Azima Shakoor, and grant consent only to Minister of Transport and Communication Ameen Ibrahim.
