JP government will establish a perfect ferry system, provided through the councils: Gasim Ibrahim

Jumhoory Party presidential candidate and party leader Gasim Ibrahim has pledged to establish a perfect ferry system that will be provided through the councils, if his party comes to power.

Speaking in at an event in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo last night, Gasim said the current national transportation system was established without sincerity.

Strongly criticizing the previous administration, Gasim said that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government did not have a clear idea of what they were doing when they tried to set up a national ferry system.

Calling the current network a failed system, Gasim said that a Jumhoory Party government will establish a system that provides a daily service.

“We see how the transportation system is right now in different parts of the country. They do not know the method, or how to do it. They have no experience. The ferry system has failed today. It does not function anywhere. What the people are seeing now is that somebody has tried and failed,” Gasim said.

Detailing some of his party’s plans to develop Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo, Gasim promised to establish an indoor sports centre and an artificial beach for the island's contentment, if they come to power.

Gasim also pledged to expand the adjacent Kaadedhdhoo airport and upgrade it to an international airport.
