Parliament committee rejects consent for Gender Minister Azima and AG Bisam, gives green light for Transport Minister Ameen

Parliament Committee on Oversight of the Government has decided to give consent to Minister of Transport and Communication Ameen Ibrahim and to reject Attorney General Aishath Bisam and Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights Aishath Azima Shakoor.

Consents for Bisam and Azima were reject with 4 votes against, of a total of 7 MPs that sat at the committee meeting today.

The MPs who voted against granting consent for Bisam and Azima include Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) parliamentary group members Baarashu MP Mohamed Shifaz, Kulhudhufushi-North MP Abdul Raoof Moosa, Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Easa and Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir.

The MPs who voted in favour of granting consent for the two cabinet members include Maduvvari MP Visam Ali, Thimarafushi MP Ahmed Shareef and Funadhoo MP Ali Saleem.

Four MPs voted in favour of granting consent for Transport Minister Ameen, which includes Maduvvari MP Visam Ali, Thimarafushi MP Ahmed Shareef, Funadhoo MP Ali Saleem and Vili-Male’ MP Mohamed Nihan Hassan.

Three MPs voted against Ameen, which includes MDP parliamentary group members Baarashu MP Mohamed Shifaz, Kulhudhufushi-North MP Abdul Raoof Moosa, Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Easa. MP Abdulla Jabir abstained his vote.

Consent for the three members of the cabinet will be decided by a vote from the parliament, after the committee report is presented to the floor.
