Azima sworn in as member of Judicial Service Commission

Aishath Azima Shukoor, the new Attorney General in the recently appointed cabinet of President Dr. Muhammad Waheed Hassan Manik, was sworn in today as member of the Judicial Service Commission.

Azima was sworn in as member of the Judicial Service Commission in accordance with Articles 157 and 158 of the Constitution, and Secion 37 of the Act on Judicial Service Commission, which stipulate that the Attorney General would be a member of the Judicial Service Commission.

The official letter of appointment was handed over to Azima by the President today, at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

Azima took her oath of office as member of the Commission before Supreme Court Judge Abdullah Areef, in today’s ceremony.

Azima, one of the leading lawyers of the country, was appointed to the cabinet by President Waheed following his taking power constitutionally, after former president Nasheed resigned from office under public opposition against his continued breach of the Constitution.
