The Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has decided to summon some senior officials of the government regarding Mohamed Fahmy Hassan attending office despite the decision by the parliament to remove him from the post of President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
Speaking to Sun Online, Thulusdhoo MP Rozaina Adam said that the members of the CSC excluding Fahmy, Attorney General Aishath Bisham, Finance Minister Abdullah Jihad and Cabinet Secretary Dr Abdullah Nazeer have been summoned to the committee meeting scheduled for 14:00 on Monday.
She said that CSC members are summoned to the committee because Fahmy participates in the commission’s meetings even after his dismissal from the commission.
She said that the attorney general is summoned to clarify the government’s stand on the issue, the cabinet secretary to clarify President Dr Mohamed Waheed’s stand on the issue, and the finance minister because Fahmy is still given his salary.
President Waheed has said that it would be best if Fahmy makes a decision on this matter on his own.
Rozaina said that interviews will be held next week following the announcement by the parliament to appoint a new member to the CSC to replace Fahmy.
