Seaplane service provider Maldivian Air Taxi (MAT) has changed its name to Trans Maldivian Airways.
The Economic Development Ministry said in an announcement today that the name of Maldivian Air Taxi had been changed to Trans Maldivian Airways from 10 June 2013.
Chief Commercial Officer of TMA Ahmed Latheef said that efforts are under way to merge the two companies, and that it would take some time before this work is completed.
Latheef said that Trans Maldivian Airways was created to provide seaplane services collaboratively by the two companies.
“We have transferred the services of TMA and MAT under the new company. The services of the two companies are now being provided by the new company,” he said.
American investment company Blackstone bought the two seaplane services companies in February 2013. The major shareholder of the new company is Blackstone, but Blackstone has not revealed the percent of shares held by them.
