Thailand’s Tourism Minister Somsak Purisrisak has said that Maldives tourism is a model for Thailand.
Thailand’s Pattaya Mail paper reported: “Somsak Purisrisak said the government will encourage Thai investors to adopt an environmental conservation system at tourist-favoured islands to tap high-end overseas tourists – the way the Maldives government has been doing.”
He further said that Thailand will introduce eco-tourism on many of the country’s islands to attract more foreign visitors.
Pattaya Mail also said that Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, during her recent visit to the Maldives, said that Thailand should follow the Maldives with more emphasis on cleanliness, environment and safety for tourists on most of the kingdom’s islands.
Agreements were signed between the two countries in seven areas during the Prime Minister’s visit to the Maldives last week.
