Hithadhoo Magistrate Court in Addu City has ruled that the District Boards in Addu were established, and officials were appointed to those boards in violation of the law.
The case was filed to court by Ibrahim Rasheed Wajdhee of Nooru Vaadhee, Hithadhoo, on 14 November 2012.
The court said that the boards were created and officials were appointed to the boards in violation of Article 130 (a) of the Decentralisation Act.
The court declared void the positions created by Addu City Council Office, namely the post of Interim President and Vice President at Hithadhoo Office; Interim President and Vice President at Maradhoo Office; Interim President and Vice President at Feydhoo Office; and Interim President and Vice President Hulhumeedhoo Office.
The court also ordered the Addu City Council Office to dismiss the officials appointed to these posts.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had also said that the District Boards were established, and people were appointed to the boards by the Addu City Council in violation of the law.
ACC has forwarded a case to the Prosecutor General’s Office to claim compensation for the losses incurred due to the establishment of the boards and the appointment of officials to the boards.
