Maldives needs a journalism that adheres to ethics: Speaker Shahid

Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Shahid has said that Maldives is in need of a journalism that adheres to proper ethical standards and conduct.

Speaking at the event to launch CNM at Trader’s Hotel last night, Shahid said that journalists have an important role in consolidating a democracy and that Maldives is currently in need of a journalism that adheres to proper ethical standards.

He said that the public will not accept false information and that journalists must remember that they have to present themselves to the public everyday.

The Speaker said that the parliament has great respect for journalists and that he will not allow the parliament to become a place that antagonizes journalists.

“The saddest thing that can happen is for the legislative body to try to tie down the journalists”

Shahid said that on the contrary, the parliament should always try to facilitate the proper resources for jounalists.
