Qatar Airways launches services on new route to Salalah, Oman

Qatar Airways has commenced services to Salalah, the second largest city in the Sultanate of Oman, the airline’s second destination to the Sultanate.

The airline already conducts 31 flights per week to Muscat, the capital of Oman. The new four flights per week to Salalah totals 35 flights to the Oman Sultanate each week.

Located on the south of the Arabian Peninsula, the city of Salalah becomes the airline’s fifth new route of the year, taking the carrier’s global reach to 127 destinations.

The new route to Salalah also heralds the first of three new Middle East routes to be launched by the carrier over the next few weeks with two cities in Iraq joining the network.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Qatar Airways Akbar Al Baker said the launch of Salalah flights demonstrated the strengthening relationship between the State of Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman.

He said that as Salalah already welcomes thousands of tourists every year, the airline looks forward to playing their part to help boost leisure and tourism businesses in Salalah, and also provide travellers from Salalah with easy connections to more than 120 destinations worldwide, through Doha.

“We are extremely delighted to have added the highly popular leisure destination of Salalah to our international network and extend our award-winning service to the people of Salalah and the Dhofar region.

“As one of the most beautiful places in the Gulf, affectionately known as the Perfume Capital of Arabia, Salalah has tremendous appeal for visitors across the Gulf, Europe, the United States and many other countries, steeped in history, culture and natural beauty,” the CEO said.

Fathi Al Shehab , Qatar Airway’s Senior Vice President of GCC, Levant, Iran, Iraq & Indian Sub-Continent hosted a gathering of distinguished guests and local media at Salalah Airport ahead of the airline’s first departure flight to Doha.

Addressing guests during the event, Al Shehab said it was a great honour for Qatar Airways to be so warmly welcomed to Salalah and thanked the government for its continued support for the airline.

General Manager of Salalah Airport, Salem Awad Al Yafaey joined Al Shehab in celebrating the airline’s arrival to the Omani city.

He said that Qatar Airways has proven itself consistently as one of the world’s most forward thinking airlines, and is a wonderful partner for the Oman in the development of tourism and commerce in southern regions of the country.

Qatar Airways is scheduled to conduct four flights per week for the Doha – Salalah route, with flights from Doha to Salalah on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and flights from Salalah to Doha on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Qatar Airways, one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, has seen rapid growth in just 16 years of operations, currently flying a modern fleet of 124 aircraft to 127 key destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and The Americas, including Chicago, the airline’s newest point introduced on April 10th this year.

Over the next few weeks and months, Qatar Airways will launch scheduled flights to a diverse portfolio of new routes, including Basra, Iraq on the 3rd of June, Sulaymaniyah, Iraq on the 20th of August, Chengdu, China on the 3rd of September, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the 18th of September, Clark Airport, Philippines on the 28th of October and next year to Philadelphia, USA on the 2nd of April.
