Prime Minister of Thailand Ms.Yingluck Shinawatra has arrived in the Maldives on an official visit today.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is scheduled to meet with President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik during her three day visit from 1st to 3rd of June.
President's Office states that during her visit, the Prime Minister will call on President Waheed and the two leaders are scheduled to hold official talks on the bilateral relations between the Maldives and Thailand.
“Seven agreements on mutual cooperation between the two countries will be also concluded during the visit. President Dr. Mohamed Waheed will host an Official Dinner in honour of the visiting Prime Minister,” President’s Office said.
Thailand’s "The Nation" newpaper recently reported Thailand’s Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom to have said that Thailand would forge closer cooperation with Sri Lanka and the Maldives under the Thailand's strategy to penetrate new markets.
According to a report by Thailand’s Trade Negotiations Department, Sri Lanka is Thailand's fourth-largest trading partner in South Asia, after India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Maldives ranks as Thailand's 104th-largest trade partner.
