Attacks on police are attempts to obstruct their duties: Police Integrity Commission

Police Integrity Commission (PIC) said that the attacks on police are deliberate attempts to intimidate and obstruct the Police from carrying out their duties.

The Commission released a press statement today condemning the attack on a Constable Misbah Abdulla who died early this morning after a high-speed motorcycle crashed into him in while on duty at a police Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) last night.

In their statement, PIC called upon the authorities to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The Commission recognizes the brave enduring effort by the police in carrying out their duties in service of the nation despite of the recent rise on dangerous attacks on the Police, this Commission views these attacks as attempts to intimidate them and obstruct the duties entrusted upon them by the Constitution,” the Police Integrity Commission’s statement read.

The Commission also said that they does not believe that the police can properly carry out their constitutional duties unless such violence is brought to an end. They called upon the instigators to end such heinous actions of violence.

The fatal accident took away the life of young police officer last night, when a motorcycle travelling at a high speed deliberately crashed into Police Constable Misbah Abdulla, 22, Naseemee Villa, Baa Hithaadhoo, forcing the young man into the air, landing about 80 feet away from the point of impact.
