Police officer dies after being hit by motorcycle in Male

A police officer who received grave injuries after being hit by a motorcycle while on duty near Jetty Number 1 on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, Male’ last night has passed away while being treated in ADK Hospital this morning.

Police say that a motorcycle travelling at a high speed deliberately crashed into Constable Misbah Abdulla, 22, Naseemee Villa, Baa Hithaadhoo while he was on duty at a Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) near Jetty Number 1 on Boduthakurufaanu Magu last night. They said that the young police officer was thrown into the air and landed about 80 feet away from the point of impact. The motorcycle then crashed into a flag pole, Police said, also injuring the two people riding the motorcycle. They are being treated in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Police said.

Police said that Misbah suffered a broken leg and neck along with numerous other injuries. They said that ADK hospital revealed that Misbah’s brain had ceased to function by the time he arrived to the hospital.

The two people who rode the motorcycle have been treated at IGMH and are currently under Police custody, Police said.
