Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has cancelled a rally planned for last night in Noonu Kudafari due to bad weather. The rally was to take place in the area opposite Kudafari Friday Mosque.
The rally, scheduled to begin at 21:30, was cancelled due to heavy rain which started at 21:00 and did not subside until past 22:00. About 1,000 members of MDA had gathered to participate in the event, and an official of MDA told Sun Online that several people could not travel to Kudafari from other islands in the atoll due to the bad weather, to participate in the rally.
Leader of MDA Ahmed Siyam Mohamed was welcomed by his supporters as he arrived in the island earlier last night. It was also raining when Siyam arrived.
The island of Kudafari had been decorated as part of the preparations for MDA’s rally.
MDA official told Sun Online that a date for this rally will be announced later. Preparations had been made to broadcast last night’s event live on TV and radio.
